Ann Charlish Studio creates contemporary and vibrant accessories using traditional materials and printmaking processes.
Ann draws her inspiration from patterns and textures found within the natural environment. She explores these through observational drawings, mark making and mono-print techniques which are developed to create her final pattern designs. She applies these designs to the surface of Harris Tweed using the process of hand silkscreen printing. She predominantly works with Harris Tweed as the woven wool provides a perfect surface for silkscreen printing. It permits a high-quality image which adds to the quality of the final product. She has recently embedded leather and wool felt into her practice as they provide additional surface qualities to explore and manipulate. Colour is a vital aspect of her work and she embraces eclectic combinations of hues through her choice of fabrics, inks and finishes.
Each item is handmade by Ann, in her studio in Leicestershire, with the purpose of creating bespoke pieces that combine the luxury and durability of Harris Tweed cloth alongside contemporary design.
