"The Early Bird" Sculpture features a wonderful oversized time-worn hand brush, probably circa 1930's. From this, a beautiful butterfly is emerging, which is actually a hand-painted butterfly, on to silk, circa 1880's, which is suspended on a wire. Next to this is the early bird, a cold-painted metal antique blue tit, eyeing up a worm. He is circa 1900, and would originally been part of a much larger sculpture.
The worm is wiggling away at the far end of the brush handle. He is sculpted from air-drying clay, and is hand-painted, and does look rather real. The words "The Early Bird" are stamped on to vintage blue leather (originally from a masonic apron).
This is a deceptively large piece, measuring 42cm long.
