A free style "Waterfall" design vase in pale blue from my Water Wonders series.
The interior of this stem vase is glazed in lead-free transparent gloss, making it watertight and suitable for displaying fresh flowers.
The vase shape is originally turned in wood and a plaster mould is made from this wooden model. Fine white and cobalt blue clay slips are poured in and out of the mould to produce the clay body of the vase. Coloured clay decorating slips are brushed and dripped on in layers on the leather hard clay body. After bisque firing, the vase is glazed on the inside and then fired again to 1180°C with an hour long soak at the top temperature.
Size: height 12.3 cm, width 5.2 cm (bottom), decreasing to 3.6 cm (top).
All pieces are individually hand made by Rowena in her Brighton studio and have her signature mark on the base. The matt outside surface can be cleaned with a soapy sponge and hot water.
(Also pictured here with a light blue vase from the same series).
Commissioning a piece of work is really exciting – it is a chance to have something made especially for you and an opportunity to really engage in the creative process.
Perhaps you need accessories to go with a particular outfit or a piece of furniture to fit a specific space in your home. We can work with you to design something truly unique. You’ll be able to discuss your ideas, likes and dislikes with the Maker and together create a piece of craft, handmade for you.
This is just a first step, so don't worry, there’ll be plenty of chances to discuss details before finalising a commission.
