This necklace is part of my Mining collection; it's inspired by my dog walks on the disused claypits near where I live in St Austell, Cornwall.
The rust is found there, a leftover piece of the industrial history of the area; the boulder opal comes from Australia and it's a link to the Cornish miners who went over there to seek their fortunes. I've combined them with slate to represent the rocky outcrops up there, and suspended them on a handmade oxidised, eco-silver chain.
This exact necklace has sold, but I can make you a similar one which will be unique: I will send you suggestions of pieces to combine before I put it together so that you can have a part in designing your own necklace, a collaborative process.
Commissioning a piece of work is really exciting – it is a chance to have something made especially for you and an opportunity to really engage in the creative process.
Perhaps you need accessories to go with a particular outfit or a piece of furniture to fit a specific space in your home. We can work with you to design something truly unique. You’ll be able to discuss your ideas, likes and dislikes with the Maker and together create a piece of craft, handmade for you.
This is just a first step, so don't worry, there’ll be plenty of chances to discuss details before finalising a commission.
