These earrings have been made by collecting, drying and pressing the individual hydrangea petals. The acrylic is heated and the petals are pressed into its surface. I then use them like a stencil to apply the colours. The petals are peeled off to reveal the unique, colourful design. This is a method of dyeing and embossing plastic jewellery I developed myself. I call it 'Fossilised Plastic' due to the fine detail that's captured on the embossed surface - so they are similar to fossils.
These botanical statement earrings evoke both a contemporary and a vintage feel, appealing to mothers & sisters alike. I hope that the wearer will not only enjoy them as jewellery but also reconsider their appreciation of the natural world.
All the acrylic I use is made from 100% recycled materials. It is also free from volatile organic compounds and hydrofluorocarbon, making it more environmentally friendly.
These hydrangea earrings measure 40mm across x 5mm deep and the total drop is 60mm. The ear wires are made from sterling silver.
