This butterfly is inspired by the Large White butterfly, a British species also known as the Cabbage White.
My butterflies all begin with a drawing or painting, I then work out the wing patterns in layers of silk. These are then stitched together and free motion embroidery used to add details. I also add a layer of organza which I cut away in certain areas to create an iridescence on the butterfly’s wing.
Final touches of colour and shimmer are added with hand beading. The body is made from pure wool which I needle felt and embroider, he has antennae of hemp string.
There is a brooch safety fastening on the back so he can be worn. Wingspan 10cm.
All butterflies come in their own vintage inspired specimen box, gift wrapped.
