These contemporary triangular earrings are made from silver and 100% recycled acrylic. They were inspired by looking at animation films like those by Studio Ghibli. I want to capture the halcyon summer days that are often used as the Studio Ghibli settings.
These earrings are made using hydrangea flowers, geraniums, box hedge leaves and ferns which I found in Victoria Park near my house.
I collect, dry and press the leaves then heat the acrylic and press the leaves into the surface. I use them like a stencil to apply the colours (in this case pinks, reds, greens. blues and oranges), which give my floral jewellery a modern feel. The skeleton leaf is then peeled off to reveal the design. This is a method of dying and embossing plastic I developed myself called 'fossilised plastic' due to the fine details, like fossils, that are captured on the embossed surface.
These earrings measure 25mm x 30mm, with 20mm silver ear wires.
Commissioning a piece of work is really exciting – it is a chance to have something made especially for you and an opportunity to really engage in the creative process.
Perhaps you need accessories to go with a particular outfit or a piece of furniture to fit a specific space in your home. We can work with you to design something truly unique. You’ll be able to discuss your ideas, likes and dislikes with the Maker and together create a piece of craft, handmade for you.
This is just a first step, so don't worry, there’ll be plenty of chances to discuss details before finalising a commission.
