This is one of a series of abstract ceramic paintings exploring line and space. My interest is in layering colour, texture and mark making through the medium of ceramics.
The base of rolled clay is printed onto, scored into and painted over repeatedly using coloured slips. The soft clay gives under gentle pressure and creates relief. As this is printed over again, a contrast in colour and pattern is revealed.
Further richness and depth is added with the application of different glazes for a second firing, which adds further qualities to the finished piece.
The painting is mounted in a bespoke frame. These framed 'ceramic paintings' work well alone or as a group.
This one-off piece measures 256mm including frame.
Commissioning a piece of work is really exciting – it is a chance to have something made especially for you and an opportunity to really engage in the creative process.
Perhaps you need accessories to go with a particular outfit or a piece of furniture to fit a specific space in your home. We can work with you to design something truly unique. You’ll be able to discuss your ideas, likes and dislikes with the Maker and together create a piece of craft, handmade for you.
This is just a first step, so don't worry, there’ll be plenty of chances to discuss details before finalising a commission.
