A slab built porcelain plate with frilled edges and botanical leaf impression - a good use of a plate that cracks in one of the stems of the impressed leaves! It was lovingly broken and joyfully re-assembled for a new purpose.
This work marks the beginning of experimentations into the Japanese method of 'Kintsugi'; the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold.
This plate is an experiment and does not yet follow the traditional method; the piece has been glued together and once dry liquid gold leaf is painted onto the visible glue. It is finished with a thin cork backing, to hide any unsightly glued areas and to softly cushion any surface underneath.
PLEASE NOTE: This plate is NOT food safe.
This plate measures 28cm in diameter and 2cm in height.
