Made with actual blades of grass, this handmade monochrome bangle or cuff is made by collecting, drying and pressing the individual leaves. The recycled perspex is heated and the leaves are pressed into its surface. I then use them like a stencil to apply the colours. The leaves are peeled off to reveal the unique, colourful design. This is a method of dyeing and embossing plastic jewellery I developed myself. I call it 'Fossilised Plastic' due to the fine detail that's captured on the embossed surface - so they are similar to fossils.
Each piece of jewellery uses an individual, real plant. The delicate process of creating each piece means that even the veins of the leaf will show, embossed into the acrylic. This means that as well as every piece being handcrafted each one is also unique.
All the acrylic I use is made from 100% recycled materials. It is also free from volatile organic compounds and hydrofluorocarbon, making it more environmentally friendly. Available in three sizes, measuring:
Small - 45mm wide x 175mm (Circ.) x 5mm (D). 25mm gap;
Medium - 45mm wide x 180mm (Circ.) x 5mm (D). 28mm gap;
Large - 45mm wide x 195mm (Circ.) x 5mm (D). 35mm gap.
