Townhill Studio - textiles created by Annabel Wilson.
Initially Annabel studied interior design and the first expressions of her creativity were through a career as an interior designer in London but always inspired and excited by the textiles she specified. Her fabric dyeing is all underpinned by an innate sense of design. The main output of the studio consists of dyed and printed textiles using natural plant dyes and indigo.
The textiles are stitched and bound using the ancient Japanese art of shibori and then dyed. Semi abstracted lines and shapes translate into patterns on the fabric. Now living in Dorset, while walking or cycling around the Dorset countryside she will notice some interesting wild seed head or plant that leads to an idea for a new textile design.
And alongside that with shibori an element of the unexpected is always present. There are many variables in shaping and dyeing the cloth; chance and accident give it life.
Commissioning a piece of work is really exciting – it is a chance to have something made especially for you and an opportunity to really engage in the creative process.
Perhaps you need accessories to go with a particular outfit or a piece of furniture to fit a specific space in your home. We can work with you to design something truly unique. You’ll be able to discuss your ideas, likes and dislikes with the Maker and together create a piece of craft, handmade for you.
This is just a first step, so don't worry, there’ll be plenty of chances to discuss details before finalising a commission.
