Claire graduated from Birmingham school of Jewellery in 1998 and has lived on both sides of the world for an equal amount of time, both in New Zealand and the UK. Having already established an ethical engagement and wedding ring business, along with re-modelling and recycling heirloom jewellery for her customers, she has more recently decided to revisit techniques learnt at University and on her travels to create a contemporary collection of jewellery.
The work is very hands on, each and every piece is individually crafted, some can be replicated some are simply one offs. The pieces are a mixture of enamelling, anodised aluminium, 24ct gold foil and sterling silver. She loves surface pattern, texture and contrasting surfaces, so encapsulates these in stunning simple designs. The idea being that you get to buy and wear small contemporary pieces of art.
Claire's practices are as ethical as possible, having spent time working with single handed gold miners in New Zealand and witnessing the damage from large scale mining in different countries she has a strong sense of making sure we are making as little impact on the planet as is possible. The metals are eco-metals and packaging and postage items are made from recycled products wherever possible.
Commissioning a piece of work is really exciting – it is a chance to have something made especially for you and an opportunity to really engage in the creative process.
Perhaps you need accessories to go with a particular outfit or a piece of furniture to fit a specific space in your home. We can work with you to design something truly unique. You’ll be able to discuss your ideas, likes and dislikes with the Maker and together create a piece of craft, handmade for you.
This is just a first step, so don't worry, there’ll be plenty of chances to discuss details before finalising a commission.
