Described as a textile artist, fine art bookmaker, sometimes a designer maker, I choose ‘paper artist’ to emphasise my love of paper, print and graphics.
Everything is made by me. I cut, sew and assemble by hand. I have a computer, digital camera and four old typewriters and my home is a treasure trove of found and second-hand materials. I am happiest working on a small, even miniature, scale and my eye for detail and finish is of great importance.
I draw upon vintage stories, rhymes and sayings. With origins in the shared story times of my childhood, during my MA in Contemporary Craft in 2007 I discovered and articulated more about the universal human need for fairy tales and nursery rhymes and the importance of keeping them alive, which is why I offer my work as a connection to reminiscence, rediscovery and joy.
Commissioning a piece of work is really exciting – it is a chance to have something made especially for you and an opportunity to really engage in the creative process.
Perhaps you need accessories to go with a particular outfit or a piece of furniture to fit a specific space in your home. We can work with you to design something truly unique. You’ll be able to discuss your ideas, likes and dislikes with the Maker and together create a piece of craft, handmade for you.
This is just a first step, so don't worry, there’ll be plenty of chances to discuss details before finalising a commission.
